do one thing

Recently, three free services have launched around the idea of doing 1 task at a time.

The idea is all the clutter and distractions are taken away… just focus your laser sights on 1 thing at a time.

The three services are NowDoThis, Next, and What Shall I Do Now?

Check them out for yourself.
They are all fairly simple and easy to use.
If you just want to get started right now with the least impediment, I suggest NowDoThis.

Here is a brief comparison of the three, focusing on the things that stood out to me as important.

add multiple tasks easily

  • NowDoThis
very easy, just separate each task with a carriage return
  • Next
very easy, just separate each task with a carriage return
  • What Shall I Do Now?
-not as easy, must use mouse to click “»>Add Task”

ability to skip task and do later

  • Next
very easy, big button with explanation text
  • What Shall I Do Now?
easy, button is smaller, and you may need to mouse over to get clarification of function
  • Now Do This
function not present, although you can manually edit the list

design

  • Now Do This
very simple, black and white, almost no clutter
  • Next
    simple, more functionality, dark design
  • What Shall I Do Now?
fairly simple. a bit cluttered compared to the other two. still cool.

A feature I would like to see…

I have been experimenting with using these sites during my shift at an AM radio station.
I normally have the same list of tasks to complete every day.
Based on my experience.. there is a feature I would like to see.
I would like to see the ability to create and load pre-made lists of tasks.
Each day when I come in to work, I could load a task list, and get to work.
Another interesting feature would be the ability to make items only show up after a certain time of day.
For example.. I need to take phone readings on the transmitter tower, but I usually like to do it after 4pm.

Thanks to these guys for sharing their creativity and skill with us.
