Mac app i want
I want an app that will dim all windows other than the currently active window.
I’m not used to using a two monitor setup on one computer. I tend to leave google calendar or gmail open on one monitor and articles to read on the other.. both in Google Chrome. The problem is, the gmail window will have the focus while i am reading an article in another window. When I press Command + W to...
MacBook external display issue
I have an Acer LCD I got from Target hooked up to my MacBook.
I either have the it hooked up to the external display at my desk, or on my lapdesk on the futon. So I disconnect it/reconnect it about once a day generally.
Today.. i hooked up the display, and my MacBook was no longer giving it the normal 1366x768 resolution, but a larger res like 1600 by something. Strange.. i tried powering the...

Disallowed shortcuts in Finder
I like to use the the side bar [1 in pic] and the tool bar for shortcuts to frequently used locations in Finder.
But, to my dismay, I found that a few items would not allow themselves to be placed there. For example i cannot put the top level of a network share in the side bar. I can place any of its contents there, but not the top level of the share itself… why?
I have no idea…

Safari vs. Chrome on MacBook
Totally unscientific, but i have a MacBook from early 2007 running Snow Leopard.
I have this pattern in Safari i play out again and again where i open an assload of tabs and they sit there not being read.
At this point, safari is slow, and opening a new tab, closing a tab, switching to a new tab… it’s all really slow. Safari is responds in a tar-speed like manner.
Well I opened up...
Passion
I am so excited about the rumored Google phone…
If Google is really going to directly sell an unlocked phone… that means no contract.
If they are selling it without a contract… i am guessing it will be cheaper than many would anticipate… this is google… this is going to change the way things are done…
If anyone can just go buy a kickass GSM phone for fairly...

Organizing large [music] collections →
marco:
My advice regarding library organization is always unpopular and always ignored, but hear me out here: delete most of your music.
It’s a convincing argument — especially the external hard drive option.
This is good advice [that i need to follow] for an iTunes library, but it’s also good advice for most everything else.

post idea
Would anyone be interested in an article concerning Google sync for iPhone and syncing Google Contacts with Address Book on a Mac?
You can use either, or perhaps both, in a way, to manage your contacts.
I have been experimenting around, and have come up against some issues… I was thinking it might be helpful to flesh out these issues, and come up with a guide on a no-data-loss way to set...

Recording audio on a Mac
Let’s say you want to get audio from a program running on your Mac. What might you want to record?
movie played in Quicktime or VLC
audio from iTunes [DRMed]
audio from a flash animation on a website [songs from strongbad emails anyone?]
etc.
On most current Windows PCs, I knew how to do this.
Basically, you just open up the recording volume controls and select the items that has your...

Pot Roast
After eating the awesome pot roast at golden corral recently.. it reminded me…
I want to use my crock pot to cook some food easily and cheaply.
I googled simple beef stew recipes, but they all seemed too complicated.
I just got back from food lion after buying:
1.39 pounds of stew beef
2 potatoes
some baby pre peeled raw carrots
bananas
I called my mom and she said I could put the...

do one thing
Recently, three free services have launched around the idea of doing 1 task at a time.
The idea is all the clutter and distractions are taken away… just focus your laser sights on 1 thing at a time. The three services are NowDoThis, Next, and What Shall I Do Now? Check them out for yourself. They are all fairly simple and easy to use. If you just want to get started right now with the...

USB Flash Drives
Have you seen how cheap these things are getting now?
Prices just keep dropping on these things.
I used to burn CDs for people to give them data.. now it is getting to the point where it makes more sense to just have a few flash drives in your bag, and copy the data to that when you want to give it to someone. Normally, they give it back.. but if they don’t, it’s not the end of the...
I am cleaning spots off the living room floor.
I just woke up. Had a dream that I had a piece of multifuction fabric on the inside of my boxer shorts. At first, I saw it was a clock, then noticed it had a tv function, then noticed i could take it off [velcro] and unfold a cloth keyboard..
